The past few days I've been able to get up early and go running on the beach. I must say, if there's anything that can make me want to get up and run, it's the beach by far. The Suns coming up and the waves are coming in, while other joggers with their dogs pass by nodding "hello - you enjoy life too." After my jog and shower, my day goes full blast with the most random activities and chores. I barely have time to slow down when, all of a sudden, it feels as though the world comes down to a grinding halt at around 5 p.m. There are always places to go, and people to help after 5, no doubt, but the feeling is more relaxed. In Mexico, people seem to know that the daylight hours are for hard, back-breaking work and the late afternoon means it's time to kick back (or at least this is the established order.)
I've been here for 5 days, and I am starting to understand what exactly is going to be required of me and how to get the job done. I'm frustrated, though, by the sheer amount and the inabilities from the lack of American luxuries to get the job done quickly. If I had high-speed computers, cell-phones, high-speed internet with WiFi to give to the main workers, let alone the entire staff, I could communicate 10 times quicker, talk less by talking to more at once, and get more jobs done and in less time. Without these, schedules must coincide precisely (and they never do) - flexibility only comes with direct-communication, and playing "who-done-it" (or who didn't do it) is only solved at the end of the day when it's too late in the evening (or actually too late) to do anything about it.
However, despite the fact that being able to respond to the situation and effective communication are a must in my book, no one has of yet to have died from any of this. I'm pulling my hair out and the Christians here just depend on God to work things out for them. I know there is a lesson here I'm supposed to learn but part of me feels as though I was sent by God so they do not have to depend on Him... maybe...
That's all for now, more updates to come!
